Motivation can be simply defined as the direction and intensity of ones effort.
The direction of effort relates to whether an individual seeks out, approaches or is attracted to certain situations. For example an injured athlete might be motivated to seek a physiotherapist’s advice or a businesswoman to start an aerobics programme.
Intensity of effort refers to how much effort an individual puts forth in a particular situation. For example a weight lifter may train with friends 4 days of the week yet differ from them in the tremendous effort or intensity he/she puts into each work out.
Motivation is one of the most powerful forces that propel individuals and teams to achieve their goals. Motivation is the foundation of all achievements. In the absence of motivation even the most talented athlete may never reach his or her potential.
